OOLONG?
Oolong (乌龙 / 烏龍 – Wūlóng) refers to oolong tea, traditionally translated as “Black Dragon.”
Founded by Stephanie Lam, OOLONG is a Hong Kong–rooted jewellery brand shaped by movement, materiality, and cultural memory. Drawing from the city’s unique relationship between mountains, coastal life, and dense urban environments, the brand reinterprets traditional jade jewellery through a contemporary lens.
Like tea itself, the pieces are intended to feel sensory, grounding, and personal, objects connected to ritual, texture, and everyday wear.
Existing between jewellery, object, and personal artifact, OOLONG explores how materials can carry memory, movement, and a quiet sense of place.
HONG KONG ROOTS
Growing up in Hong Kong meant existing between contrasts: steep mountain ridgelines against dense urban environments, traditional rituals alongside hypermodern architecture, humidity, movement, neon light, concrete, vegetation, and the constant proximity of the ocean.
These contrasts continue to shape the visual language of OOLONG.
The collections draw inspiration from ridgelines, climbing systems, coastal movement, weathered textures, ropes, and the rhythm of travelling through shifting landscapes. Rather than recreating traditional jade jewellery, OOLONG seeks to reinterpret the material in a more fluid, tactile, and contemporary way.
MATERIALS & JADE
At its core, OOLONG works with natural jade, often sourced as off-cut material from Hong Kong workshops, alongside pearls, diamonds, sterling silver, 18K gold, and hand-knotted cords.
Some pieces incorporate remaining fragments from larger carving or production processes. Rather than discarding these materials, OOLONG transforms them into contemporary wearable objects with renewed meaning and individuality.
For thousands of years, jade has occupied a unique place within Chinese culture as a symbol of balance, integrity, protection, and strength. Unlike gemstones valued purely for brilliance or rarity, jade has historically been appreciated for its texture, translucency, depth, and individuality.
Because jade is a natural material, every stone carries unique variations in colour, inclusions, and organic patterning, characteristics that form part of the beauty of the material itself.
